Pharo School, Homosha

Welcome Note

A very warm welcome to The Pharo School Homosha (Girls Boarding School), Beneshangul Gumuz Region Ethiopia learning community. We look forward to sharing an exceptional academic relationship with you, one that will be supportive and successful. As a Head of School, I aim to maintain and develop a happy and vibrant boarding school in which everyone is safe, treated with respect, and encouraged to learn.  Our focus on female education is in recognition of the challenges in accessing quality education in the region, which prevents many from unlocking their full potential. This shapes the School’s vision of achieving all-around academic and personal development of girls to reach their highest potential and become future leaders and role models. We bring aspects of British/International education into our teaching and learning. We prepare our students for post-Grade 12 Ethiopian National Examinations.  We also use GL (Granada Learning) Assessments due to its world-known robust academic and cognitive assessments, tracking, and reporting used by over 800,000 students. We also offer the STEM programme as a part of our unique after-school enrichment programme.

At Pharo School Homosha, the ‘students come first. Bringing out the best in each student is our constant aim. We believe that students should receive a broad, balanced, and student-centred education. This will develop an effective combination of creativity, confidence, and courtesy, which will equip our young global citizens to cope with the demands of life in the 21st century, wherever they may live in the world.  In today’s rapidly changing and challenging world we believe it to be the school’s primary task to foster in its community a life-long love of learning and a sense of responsible citizenship.
I am incredibly proud of the work done at our school and I sincerely look forward to helping you learn more about how a Pharo School Homosha education fits with the academic, spiritual, and personal goals you have for your daughter.  Please take a moment to call the school and schedule a visit to see what our school has to offer!

History

In 2016, when The Pharo Foundation assessed the socio-economic context of the region, the secondary gross enrolment rate for girls was only 45.7%. Even lower (32%) for girls from certain communities in the region.  The gender parity index (GPI) was 0.8% indicating more boys’ participation than girls.

On July 2nd, 2017, with a colourful ground-breaking ceremony, the foundation stone of Pharo School Homosha was laid by H.E. Ashadle Ahmed President of the regional government, and Mr Guillaume Fonkenell founder and chairman of The Pharo Foundation trustees. The day marked the beginning of transforming 16 hectares of land into a 250-capacity state-of-the-art full-board girls’ school. Pharo School Homosha was officially started on Feb 29, 2020.
